Coastal residential regeneration at Princes Parade, Hythe, Kent

The challenge

Sunningdale House Developments' proposed scheme at Princes Parade in Hythe — 150 seafront homes alongside a hotel, restaurants and leisure facilities set against a landscaped promenade — required a community consultation event as part of the reserved matters application. With a prominent coastal site and an engaged local community, clear communication and considered engagement were essential.

The approach

  1. 01

Recommended a two-day consultation event at Hythe Town Hall, running 2pm to 8pm to give as many residents as possible the chance to attend.

  2. 02

Worked with the client, architects Hollaway Studio and the wider project team to translate technical proposals into a series of accessible A0 display boards covering architecture, landscaping, transport, flooding and ecology.

  3. 03

Developed a dedicated project website mirroring the boards, so residents who could not attend in person could still review the proposals and submit feedback.

  4. 04

Ran a promotional campaign across the local community, Town Council and local press before and after the event to drive attendance and build understanding.

  5. 05

Collated feedback from the event, website and feedback forms and reported back to Sunningdale House and Hollaway Studio to inform refinement of the planning submission.

The consultation delivered strong local attendance and constructive feedback that fed directly into the refined planning submission. The programme was recognised as an example of best-practice community engagement on a sensitive coastal site — shortlisted at the Construction Marketing Awards for both Best Stakeholder / Internal Communications and Best Use of Events & Live Marketing.
